Interprofessional activities during the placement

In 2012, students in various programs took part in a pilot interprofessional activity project during their clinical placement. Four placement environments were targeted, based on the students' interests and their collaborative practice experience:

  • The intensive care team at the CHUM's Hôpital St-Luc
  • The surgical interprofessional teaching unit of Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont (HMR)
  • The child motor development disabilities team at the CHU Sainte-Justine / CR Marie-Enfant
  • The integrated perinatal and early childhood services team of the CSSS Sud de Lanaudière

The results of the pilot project proved to be very positive, both for the professional environments and for the students.

More specifically, there were supervised clinical training activities offered to students-in-training who were registered in one of the 13 training programs concerned, during a given period of time. Here are a few examples of interdisciplinary activities during placements:

  • an interprofessional training tour
  • an interprofessional discussion of clinical cases
  • an Interdisciplinary Intervention Plan (IIP)
  • analysis of incidents-accidents within an interprofessional team meeting

These activities must meet certain conditions:

  • Take into account the competence development trajectory
  • Involve at least two students-in-training from different professions
  • Mobilize a patient-partner and/or family member
  • Allow an Interdisciplinary Intervention Plan (IIP) to be carried out

Are you welcoming students-in-training from the Université de Montréal in one of the 13 programs and want to include interprofessional placement activities in your clinical environment?
